Speakeasy

676-8 N Orleans St

The most speakeasy vibes in town.

The most speakeasy thing I’ve seen in Chicago so far.

It's hidden underneath the Green Door Tavern, which is a very standard, casual, every day kind of bar - you sneak into the back down the stairs like you’re going to the restroom, and at the bottom of the stairs on the right there’s a hidden door that looks like a shelf.

Behind that door, you’re transported back in time to the prohibition era.

Fully set with an old flag, full 20s / 30s décor, and live entertainment past 6:30 (there is a $6 cover for that). For me it was a wonderfully smooth guitarist with a perfect man bun, but I heard whispers that there are sometimes burlesque shows!

At 6:30, the lights go down, a triumphant horn sounds, and everyone shuts up to listen to the show.

That moment of atmosphere alone was worth coming. I thoroughly enjoyed it. :)

They’ve got custom tarot cards for each cocktail - and that’s what they hand you as a menu. I thought it was super duper fun - and the cocktails are EXCELLENT. I enjoyed mine thoroughly. :)

You can still order food from the upstairs kitchen too - and despite it’s hidden entrance, this place was poppin’ at 6pm on a Saturday. In fact, as I left at around 6:45, there was a line out the door. Show up as early as you can - the bar is first come first serve!

Not loud, bright, well decorated, old, soft music - the works. I highly recommend it. <3
