Speakeasy
167 N Green St
Small, neat, and friendly
Lovely, small, Japanese spot, simply decorated. It's neatly hidden in West Loop on Green street in a popular area, but it's still super underrated.
You can usually get a table or bar seating at dinner on a weekend - for now, at least.
It's run by the same people that made Booze Box under Sushi Dokku, another excellent Japanese speakeasy.
It's not over the top, not loud, and not pretentious. There's a small, central rectangular sushi bar that fills the center of the room, and holds most of the seats.
There are a few small tables off to the sides, so if you have a group bigger than 5, you'll need to contact them ahead of time.
Their drinks are lovely, and despite the menu being small and simple they have a decent selection of Sake and Japanese Whiskey.
I got a Kanbara Sake, and tried a sip of their Mimo Fizz - both excellent.
The available dishes are similarly Japanese, and quite fun.
Most of the menu is sushi and sashimi - we got a Strawberry Sando (a Japanese cream sandwich) as a desert with our drinks.
I highly recommend it, especially because it hasn't caught on yet (as of my writing this, July 2025)
